About

From Marine to first data analyst to senior director.

Mike Petrillo

I joined the Marine Corps in 2004, straight out of high school. I served six years, including a 2009 deployment to Al-Taqqadum, Iraq, where I was NCOIC of Billeting and supervised the relocation of $100M in equipment. The Marines gave me a way to think about systems and execution that I still use every day.

While in the reserves I started in BI in 2007 at Dassault Systèmes and stayed for seven years while finishing my BSBA in Supply Chain at UNC Charlotte. After a year at Lowe's I joined AvidXchange in 2015 as the company's first data analyst. That single seat became a 20-person data organization, and over the past ten years I kept moving the work into whatever shape the business needed: analytics, data engineering, revenue ops, integrations, and now data product. Today I lead the Data Product domain and am building AvidAnalytics — our customer-facing analytics platform. Twenty years in BI and data, in total.

Outside of the day job, I've been building in crypto since 2016 — founded a decentralized social network early on, helped grow a charity crypto project from $100K to $15M, and published academic work on smart contracts. I currently run an autonomous Polymarket trading bot called MarketMind.

I live in Charlotte, NC. I have an MBA in Data Analytics from NC State, a BSBA in Supply Chain from UNC Charlotte, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification, and an IASSC Yellow Belt.
